Successful candidates should possess the following qualifications:A high school diploma or GED. Preferred candidates will have at least six months of surveying experience or equivalent training in the field. A solid understanding of standard survey procedures and instruments is desirable. Ability to carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs across diverse terrains. Willingness to work outdoors year-round, adapting to seasonal weather conditions including extreme heat and wind chill. Physical capabilities to perform tasks such as hiking, climbing, and vegetation management, including chopping, cutting, hammering, and sawing.

The Survey Instrument Operator plays a crucial role in supporting Land Surveyors and Party Chiefs by applying principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering and land surveying. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in Field Crew operations to gather field data for boundary surveys, topographical assessments, and construction stakeout surveys.
  • Learning to operate essential tools such as total stations, levels, GPS units, and data collectors for effective survey data collection.
  • Collaborating on construction stakeout projects under the guidance of a Party Chief, including tasks related to curb and gutter, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, and structural projects.
  • Maintaining and ensuring the proper upkeep of surveying instruments.
  • Documenting clear and precise field notes accompanied by sketches.
  • Working effectively in a team environment while being adaptable to varying weather conditions.
