A solid grasp of drill & blast, geotechnical considerations, and mine economics is necessary. Knowledge of U. S. mining regulations, specifically MSHA standards, is important.

About the job

The Senior Mine Engineer at bluemoonmetals will work onsite at the Springer Mine and Milling Complex in Imlay, Nevada. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Mining, this position shapes the direction of mine planning, design, and operational optimization. The role supports safe, efficient, and cost-conscious mining while ensuring that daily practices align with the company’s long-term objectives.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement mine designs and plans to support the restart of mining activities.
  • Create and refine layouts for both open pit and underground operations, including haul roads, ramps, stopes, and sequencing.
  • Ensure all mine plans meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental guidelines.
  • Work closely with exploration teams, contractors, permitting authorities, and site staff to coordinate planning and execution.
  • Oversee engineering consultants for technical studies as needed.
  • Track mine performance, compare actual results to plans, and address any gaps.
  • Conduct economic assessments, cost analyses, and productivity reviews.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and life-of-mine planning, including capital projects.
  • Implement and maintain mine planning software and related systems.
  • Develop and document mine planning processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility in Nevada preferred.
  • At least 10 years of mining experience, with significant time in planning and operations.
  • Background in both open pit and underground mining.
  • Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik.
