Role Overview

The Director of Technical Writing leads the transformation of GitLab’s technical documentation. Reporting to the Chief Design Officer, this leader manages a team focused on process innovation, AI-driven documentation, and stronger partnerships with Engineering, Product Management, and UX. The role involves challenging current practices, encouraging engineering teams to take more responsibility for source documentation, and finding new ways to connect documentation with the product experience, including through GitLab Duo.

What You Will Do

  • Assess and evolve the technical writing team’s structure and skills to meet future needs
  • Drive process improvements and integrate AI into documentation workflows
  • Build closer collaboration with Engineering, Product Management, and UX partners
  • Empower engineering teams to contribute directly to source documentation
  • Enhance the documentation site to improve user satisfaction and product integration
  • Explore new approaches to make documentation more actionable within the GitLab platform

Location

This is a remote position open to candidates in Canada and the US.
