About the job
Allen Control Systems (ACS) is an innovative defense startup established by two former Navy electrical engineers with extensive experience in robotics and software development. We are pioneering the creation of a compact, autonomous gun turret that utilizes advanced computer vision and control technologies to accurately target and eliminate small drones and loitering munitions. Our commitment to overcoming formidable technical challenges fosters an exhilarating and fast-paced environment for seasoned professionals.
With a strong engineering-first ethos, ACS prioritizes technical excellence and groundbreaking innovation. Supported by our founders' successful exits from two previous ventures acquired for a total of $180 million in 2022, we are dedicated to ensuring that the transformative technologies we develop create a meaningful impact in the real world.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Technical Writer to craft, organize, and sustain thorough technical documentation for ACS's autonomous counter-drone system. This role necessitates a robust ability to translate intricate engineering concepts related to robotics, computer vision, and embedded control systems into clear, accurate, and compliant publications that cater to operators, field personnel, and government clients.
What You’ll Do:
- Collaborate closely with ACS engineers and founders to collect and document technical details about the autonomous turret platform, including computer vision systems, control systems, robotics hardware, and embedded software.
- Create and maintain operator manuals, user guides, system integration documents, maintenance procedures, and safety documentation for ACS's counter-drone technology.
- Develop technical deliverables aimed at government clients that adhere to relevant DoD and MIL-SPEC standards (e.g., MIL-STD-40051, S1000D, or related Technical Orders).
- Work alongside mechanical and electrical engineers to document hardware assembly, wiring, and maintenance procedures for the autonomous turret platform.
- Assist with proposal activities and contract deliverables by generating technical narratives, Statements of Work (SOWs), and program documentation for government customers.
- Oversee document version control and ensure consistency across all publication formats as the ACS product evolves rapidly.
- Prepare and submit documentation deliverables to government agencies and program offices, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and review timelines.
