Key Qualifications:Recognized degree in Architecture with current registration as an Architect in Australia or a commitment to obtain registration. A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience demonstrating SQEP competence in nuclear, defence, or safety-critical sectors, highlighted by architectural leadership roles in high-regulation infrastructure projects. Extensive experience in leading architectural design within complex defence and nuclear environments. Profound understanding of architectural design standards in nuclear-regulated settings and the defence sector. In-depth knowledge of:Nuclear safety frameworks (IAEA standards, ONR SAPs/TAGs, ANNPSR regulations). Defence and government design assurance standards. Hazard management and ALARP demonstrations in facility design. ISO 19443 nuclear quality management and configuration control.

About the job

The Technical Director of Architecture for the Nuclear Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (NSQEP) plays a pivotal role in leading the planning, design, and execution of defence infrastructure projects across Australia. This position merges architectural innovation with a robust understanding of nuclear safety protocols, ensuring that all facilities are designed and constructed in accordance with the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR), Defence standards, and the best practices established by international bodies such as the IAEA and ONR.

In your capacity as Technical Director, you will be responsible for shaping innovative design strategies, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing architectural outputs that are integral to nuclear safety cases and regulatory compliance. Additionally, you will serve as a strategic consultant to stakeholders and industry partners, embedding principles of safety, resilience, and operational readiness into all architectural decisions.
