About the job

Join Runlayer as a Staff Identity Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the identity and authentication framework that underpins every AI-to-enterprise connection on our innovative platform.

At Runlayer, we are at the forefront of AI integration, ensuring enterprises can safely adopt our pioneering MCP (Multi-Cloud Platform) standard, which has been embraced by leading companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. With our recent funding of $11M from Khosla Ventures and Felicis, we are poised for rapid growth.

Our team, comprised mainly of engineers, has previously developed AI Actions for OpenAI and successfully shipped Zapier Agents to a vast user base. We are now focused on delivering the tools that enterprises need for secure MCP adoption.

Why You'll Thrive Here:

  • Impact: Take ownership of the identity and authentication layer that secures every connection on our platform.

  • Excellence: Collaborate with a team of engineers with experience in deploying AI systems at scale.

  • Ownership: Influence the development of MCP and AI agent authentication from initial specifications to production-level code.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and implement authentication and authorization systems for MCP servers (OAuth 2.0, Dynamic Client Registration, token management).

  • Enhance our OAuth broker to facilitate enterprise identity integrations across multiple vendors.

  • Craft identity propagation mechanisms for AI agents, ensuring secure and auditable access to enterprise systems.

  • Integrate with enterprise identity providers such as Okta, WorkOS, Azure AD, and SCIM systems.

  • Establish fine-grained access control policies for MCP tools and resources.

  • Collaborate with customers like Gusto and Rippling to address real-world identity challenges.

  • Contribute to the MCP Auth specification, defining agent identity across the industry.

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on identity, authentication, or authorization systems.

  • Proficiency in developing and implementing OAuth 2.0 and related technologies.

  • Experience with identity providers and SCIM integrations.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
