About the job
New Leaf Energy is a leading clean energy developer dedicated to partnering with landowners, policymakers, and various stakeholders to expedite the transition to a renewable energy future. By identifying high-value sites and collaborating with local communities, we work to develop impactful clean energy projects alongside long-term asset owners.
We are currently looking for a Senior Utility Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. While our preference is for this role to be based in Lowell or Boston, MA, we are open to candidates in our Oakland, Troy, or Chicago offices. We value in-person collaboration and promote a hybrid work environment, requiring in-office presence at least two days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with flexibility on other days.
In this position, you will assess potential distributed energy resources (DER) sites, craft regulatory policies, review proposed relaying and integration schemes, and provide engineering guidance to ensure optimal integration with the utility system.
Internally, you will closely collaborate with teams from Interconnection, Policy, Project Development, and Development Engineering. Externally, you will act as the technical engineering lead when working with utility engineers across various service territories to design interconnection facilities and system modifications that enable the integration of parallel distributed generators while ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the distribution system. Developing a comprehensive understanding of New Leaf Energy’s design philosophy, engineering standards, and their financial implications on projects will be essential.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Evaluating and providing actionable feedback on distribution- and ISO-level utility impact studies regarding accuracy, required system upgrades, project design changes, and cost-effectiveness;
- Assisting project developers with the assessment of potential PV sites and estimating interconnection costs;
- Reviewing interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with relevant utility standards and regulatory requirements;
- Managing the technical aspects of the interconnection process at the project level;
- Providing training and mentorship to the internal engineering team;
- Participating in internal initiatives for process improvement in terms of time and quality;
- Engaging actively in state- and industry-level technical policy working groups to advocate for policies and standards that facilitate clean energy integration.
