Strong identity management is essential to unlock the potential of AI, making it safe, personalized, and invaluable. Our team is responsible for developing the trusted OpenAI account layer, which connects individuals, organizations, and developers to OpenAI applications and the broader AI ecosystem.

About the Role

In the role of Senior Software Engineer on the Identity team, you will be instrumental in designing and enhancing the identity platform that supports all OpenAI users across our diverse product offerings. You will take the lead on the architecture and implementation of key identity systems—encompassing authentication, authorization, access control, and account management—empowering users, teams, and organizations to manage accounts at scale while ensuring a seamless user experience. This role encompasses our entire product suite, including ChatGPT, API, Sora, Codex, and Atlas, and requires close collaboration with product and platform engineers who depend on identity as a critical infrastructure component. You will spearhead significant architectural initiatives, mentor fellow engineers, and make pivotal platform decisions with a focus on security, correctness, and reliability.

In this role, you will:

  • Architect and develop the next generation of identity solutions at OpenAI, including innovative use cases such as Agent identity and Sign In With ChatGPT.
  • Design and implement our identity infrastructure for consumer-scale applications, effectively addressing scalability challenges as they arise.
  • Create robust identity primitives, APIs, and internal tools that empower product teams across OpenAI to integrate seamlessly with our account and access-control framework.
  • Collaborate extensively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including product, design, go-to-market teams, and fellow engineers.

  • Possess 7+ years of experience in building and deploying production systems at product-focused technology companies, demonstrating a strong record of managing significant technical responsibilities.
  • Exhibit a deep commitment to reliability, safety, and performance in production environments.
