Essential ResponsibilitiesDefine and oversee the safety architecture for our Driver Out autonomous system, establishing system decomposition, safety mechanisms, and architectural constraints that substantiate our UL 4600 safety case claims. Derive functional safety concepts and technical safety concepts from Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) outputs, allocating safety requirements to AV system components (perception, prediction, planning, actuation, fallback) with clear architectural rationale in accordance with UL 4600 and ISO 26262.

Role Overview

The Senior Product Safety Architect II defines and manages the safety architecture for May Mobility’s Level 4 autonomous driving system. This role turns safety objectives and hazard analyses into practical system-level design choices. The position requires working closely with teams across perception, prediction, planning, and control to ensure safety requirements are integrated throughout development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and define the comprehensive safety architecture for the Level 4 autonomous driving system.
  • Translate safety objectives and hazard analyses into actionable system design decisions.
  • Work with engineering teams to embed safety requirements across the development lifecycle.
  • Ensure safety properties are verifiable, traceable, and defensible within the safety case.

What We’re Looking For

  • Extensive experience in functional safety, including UL 4600 and ISO 26262.
  • Strong understanding of safety challenges related to AI and machine learning in autonomous systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical teams to integrate safety at every stage.
  • An architectural approach to system safety, with a focus on clear and defensible safety cases.
