Key Responsibilities: Oversee the complete issuer dispute lifecycle, ensuring efficient, accurate, and compliant resolution for cardholder disputes. Lead the charge for AI-driven automation, minimizing manual processes and enhancing efficiency in dispute classification, evidence handling, and prioritization. Mentor a high-performing engineering team to boost engineering velocity and system reliability through smart workflows and automation. Serve as the technical and business leader during customer and network escalations, converting real-world challenges into system advancements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Risk, Compliance, Product, Operations, and Legal to influence the platform roadmap and dispute strategies. Who You Are: A seasoned engineering leader with 8-12+ years in the field, including 4+ years managing senior engineers or teams. Possess a hands-on AI-first mindset, leveraging AI/ML technologies to enhance team efficiency and reduce manual workload. Exhibit a strong ownership mentality, thriving in ambiguous situations while taking complete responsibility for results. Have a profound understanding of issuer-side card and money movement disputes, with knowledge of network flows (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AmEx) and relevant timelines. Comfortable in customer-facing and network interactions, adept at translating technical details into actionable insights.

About the job

As the Senior Manager, Software Engineering for our Risk, Fraud and Disputes team at Marqeta, you will spearhead the design, development, and execution of issuer-side disputes across various card networks and payment platforms. Your role will be pivotal in constructing and managing robust systems that handle cardholder disputes, oversee chargeback lifecycles, adhere to network regulations, and streamline evidence workflows.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited for an individual with extensive experience in disputes and chargebacks, who possesses an AI-first approach, takes full accountability for results, and is adept at collaborating with enterprise clients and networks to navigate complex dispute situations.
