About the job

Launch Your Career. Expand Your Horizons.

Join our dynamic Streets Scotland team as a Senior Engineer, where you will spearhead and execute innovative multi-disciplinary street projects for public sector clients throughout Scotland. Your projects will encompass a variety of commissions, including Active Travel corridors, Park & Ride improvements, junction upgrades, public transport prioritization, traffic management systems, and road safety initiatives. You will oversee projects from initial concept development to detailed design and implementation support, ensuring outcomes that are safe, inclusive, environmentally conscious, and cost-effective.

Your Role:

You will be part of a collaborative and supportive team recognized for delivering high-caliber designs, technical excellence, and fostering robust client relationships. This position offers numerous opportunities for leadership, project coordination, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating closely with our engineering teams in India.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical design and verification of street projects across all stages (conceptual, preliminary, detailed design, and delivery support).
  • Create and assess designs, drawings, schedules, and specifications (AutoCAD/Civil 3D), addressing aspects such as horizontal/vertical alignment, traffic signs/markings, drainage integration, kerbing, surfacing, and street furniture.
  • Develop solutions for traffic engineering challenges (signal control, bus priority, junction optimization, safety measures, and TRO support).
  • Coordinate road safety considerations throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating RSA insights (guided by GG 119) and human factors.
  • Produce comprehensive technical notes, design reports, stage reports, cost estimates, BoQs, risk registers, and H&S/CDM documentation.
  • Assist in procurement and project delivery (NEC3/NEC4 scoping, works information, responding to tender queries, contractor communication, and design inquiries during construction).

Standards & Assurance:

  • Implement relevant standards from Transport Scotland, DMDB, Cycling by Design, TSRGD, Traffic Signs Manual, National Roads Development Guide, Inclusive Mobility, Sustrans guidelines, and local authority standards.
  • Incorporate CDM 2015 responsibilities, road safety best practices, quality assurance, and design approvals with thorough audit trails.

Project & Stakeholder Management:

  • Plan and oversee the scope, schedule, resources, risks, changes, and budgets for small to medium-sized projects/work packages.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary inputs, including geo/environmental, structures, drainage, lighting, landscape, and EIA/SEA as needed.
  • Engage effectively with public sector clients (local authorities, regional transport partnerships, Transport Scotland) and liaise with statutory bodies (utilities, police, bus operators, Sustrans, community groups).
