About the job
Location: Remote U. S.
Motional develops autonomous driving technology, focusing on safety, reliability, and accessibility. Backed by Hyundai Motor Group, Motional works to advance driverless vehicles and aims to make streets safer while supporting sustainable mobility.
Team: Systems Readiness and Performance
This group bridges software development and real-world deployment. The team is responsible for system design, verification, and validation of the autonomy stack. They set and measure system performance targets, validate results, and collaborate closely with autonomy, infrastructure, and operations teams. Their work supports the safety case for launching fully driverless IONIQ 5 robotaxis in Las Vegas.
Role overview
The Senior Engineer, Autonomy Machine Learning Systems, joins the Autonomy Subsystems team, which designs and evaluates modules within Motional’s autonomy software. This role centers on evaluating machine learning subsystems. Work includes running offline evaluations, open and closed-loop re-simulations, and assessing on-road performance of machine learning models. The team defines performance metrics, validates outcomes, and shares insights with machine learning developers to improve model performance in Motional vehicles.
What you will do
- Design and assess machine learning subsystems for autonomous vehicles
- Conduct offline evaluations and re-simulations, both open and closed-loop
- Assess on-road performance of machine learning models
- Develop and validate metrics for autonomy subsystem performance
- Collaborate with machine learning developers to enhance model performance
Requirements
- Experience as a technical systems engineer working with safety-critical systems and machine learning models
- Background or strong interest in autonomy, robotics, or machine learning
- Prepared to help build production-ready systems and support deployment of Motional’s robotaxi service
