Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Pipeline Security team, you will take full technical ownership of GitLab's native Secrets Manager—a production-grade system built on OpenBao that secures sensitive credentials within GitLab CI/CD pipelines. You will work at the intersection of backend engineering and infrastructure, shaping architecture using Ruby on Rails and Go, influencing decisions related to role-based access control (RBAC), GraphQL APIs, and Kubernetes deployment configurations. In your first year, you will help transition the Secrets Manager toward general availability, establish technical patterns for the team, and represent the team's perspective in cross-functional discussions. You will have end-to-end ownership—from design through production operations—allowing you to determine what should be built next and enhance the team's delivery of secure, reliable features.
