About the job

Join Us in Shaping the Future of Aviation

At Vertical Aerospace, we are at the forefront of the electric aviation revolution. Our cutting-edge eVTOL aircraft, the Valo, is designed to deliver 'zero emissions' and set new benchmarks for safety in air travel.

We are committed to breaking away from traditional aerospace practices, aiming to redefine industry standards as we transition from a prototype-focused company to a rapidly growing SME. The upcoming years are crucial for achieving our ambitious target of obtaining airliner-level safety certification by 2028, paving the way for our aircraft to serve airline and operator customers.

Your Role

We are on the lookout for a skilled Avionic Systems Engineer to spearhead the design, development, and integration of our Communication, Navigation, Surveillance, and Maintenance Systems for the eVTOL platform. This position requires a robust understanding of avionics along with hands-on experience in system design, integration, verification, and certification processes. You will play a pivotal role throughout the avionics development lifecycle, including definition, integration, and support for certification.

Ideal candidates will possess over 8 years of relevant experience, demonstrating the ability to take ownership of critical technical work packages.

Your Responsibilities

  • Avionics Leadership: Lead an engineering team responsible for the design and integration of aircraft communication, navigation, surveillance, and maintenance systems. Develop comprehensive requirements, documentation, test procedures, and reports while overseeing test plan development, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

  • Modelling & Requirements Management: Capture engineering specifications within Vertical's modelling and requirements framework, ensuring end-to-end traceability and compliance with all certification requirements.

  • System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure seamless system compatibility and integration into the platform. Lead ground and systems integration tests alongside flight test teams to deliver a certifiable avionics solution that meets customer expectations.

  • Project Delivery: Manage work packages within the Vehicle Systems team, ensuring timely delivery of designs and adherence to hardware and software delivery plans.
