Minimum Qualifications:8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on backend or full-stack development. Proven experience in building and deploying production-grade products utilizing LLMs and agentic frameworks. Expertise in TypeScript and/or Python programming languages. In-depth knowledge of prompt engineering, context management, and LLM reasoning techniques. Experience with tool-use, function calling, and agent orchestration (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, Claude Code, or custom solutions). Skilled in designing structured evaluations to assess and enhance AI system performance. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams. Experience in government, defense, or regulated environments is advantageous. Strong familiarity with code generation agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Devin-style systems).

Join ICON's innovative Government Technology team as a Senior AI Software Engineer, where your expertise will help shape the future of construction technology. We seek a skilled engineer who has transitioned from traditional software development into the cutting-edge realm of agentic AI. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement AI-driven tools and autonomous agents that enhance our software platform. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Defense Technology Programs, this is a full-time, on-site position based in our Austin, TX campus.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and construct agentic AI systems that streamline complex workflows on ICON's platform.
  • Develop features powered by large language models (LLMs) using advanced models and APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI).
  • Architect and implement multi-agent systems, tool-use frameworks, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations.
  • Create robust Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems involving document ingestion and vector retrieval strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and translate them into successful products.
  • Oversee the entire development lifecycle of AI features, including prototyping, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Act as a technical resource and mentor for best practices in agentic AI across the engineering team.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in the agentic AI field and integrate new techniques into production.
