About the job
Waymo is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, dedicated to becoming the world’s most trusted driver. Beginning as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, we have relentlessly worked on developing the Waymo Driver—The World’s Most Experienced Driver™—to enhance mobility access and prevent thousands of lives lost in traffic accidents. Our fully autonomous ride-hail service is powered by the Waymo Driver, which has successfully completed over ten million rider-only trips, autonomously navigating more than 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across over 15 states in the U. S.
Though our vehicles navigate the world autonomously, our global security framework relies heavily on professionals like you. Safety is our cornerstone and drives every aspect of our operations. As the Security Operations Center Watch Lead, you will play a crucial role in maintaining comprehensive situational awareness and managing real-time security events, acting as the security representative and primary contact during incidents and crises.
As an integral member of the Waymo Security Operations Center (WaySOC), your primary responsibility will be the continuous monitoring of our global operational landscape. You will manage security events with accuracy and technical expertise, ensuring that physical security considerations are integrated into cross-functional initiatives while possessing the discretion to escalate complex issues to leadership when appropriate.
This position requires shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, at our 24/7/365 operations center and will report directly to the Waymo Security Operations Center Operations Manager.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Maintaining Situational Awareness: Lead the monitoring of Waymo’s global presence, evaluating and assessing potential impacts on personnel, the autonomous fleet, and facilities.
- Managing Real-Time Events: Supervise security responses to active incidents, ensuring operational excellence and strict compliance with established protocols.
- Representing Physical Security: Act as the physical security point of contact during the initial stages of all incident responses and crises, collaborating with teams in Facilities, EHS, Operations, Safety, Legal, and Resilience.
- Conducting Briefings: Deliver clear and concise situational updates to leadership during active security events, demonstrating professional judgment to identify when incidents necessitate higher-level intervention.
- Ensuring Operational Quality: Perform real-time audits of incident logs and dispatch activities.
