The New York Times is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Science News Editor to lead and enhance our coverage on the Science desk. This role requires exceptional news judgment, a quick execution mindset, and the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team of reporters covering intricate topics.
In collaboration with the desk head and deputy, you will swiftly assign stories to reporters and manage dynamic coverage, often working alongside other desks and the leadership team. Proficiency in our live and breaking news platforms is essential, as is mastery of the English language to uphold our esteemed standards and style through both initial and subsequent edits.
The ideal candidate will actively monitor competitors, striving to surpass them not only in quality but also in speed of reporting. Beyond leading news coverage, you will engage in general editing tasks, overseeing a small group of reporters across various formats, including news, explanatory pieces, features, and investigations.
This is an in-office role based in New York City, requiring regular attendance four days a week, with some flexibility for remote work in accordance with departmental guidelines.
