The Waymo Safety team is committed to advocating for and continuously advancing the safety of our fully autonomous driving technology. Our specialists set safety objectives and strategies, performing safety engineering analyses to ensure safety considerations are integral throughout vehicle design and development. This team also formulates and endorses safety policies for autonomous vehicles in collaboration with regulatory bodies, lawmakers, law enforcement, and both public and non-profit organizations. Furthermore, our Safety Team provides guidance on adhering to relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
In this hybrid role, you will report to our Head of Safety Management and Best Practices.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- SMS Policy Maintenance: Assist the SMS Lead in the creation, periodic review, revision, and implementation support of enterprise-level safety policies and governance documentation.
- Culture Management & Promotion: Design and implement closed-loop processes to maintain and promote a positive safety culture, along with internal initiatives such as Safety Month, newsletters, and town halls to elevate safety awareness.
- Governance Support: Aid in managing safety committees and working groups, ensuring alignment between policy goals and effective departmental execution.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the main point of contact for internal teams to interpret safety policies and gather feedback to enhance the SMS and the 'lived' safety culture.
- Goals & Metrics: Develop and monitor SMS-related goals and Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) that align with the broader SMS objectives.
