About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Product Manager specializing in biosecurity risk. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead initiatives that ensure the safety, impact, and alignment of OpenAI’s frontier model deployments with user needs and technological advancements. You will establish strategic priorities, craft safety-oriented product roadmaps, and collaborate closely with AI researchers, software engineers, policy experts, and cross-functional partners. Additionally, you will devise strategies to enhance the ecosystem, empowering others to stay ahead of adversaries. This position is ideal for a proactive and technically proficient product manager with a knack for adversarial thinking and a passion for solving complex, ambiguous challenges through structured analysis and collaborative decision-making.

This role is located in San Francisco, CA, and relocation assistance is available.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with research, engineering, data science, and policy teams, along with other stakeholders, to integrate safety throughout the development and deployment of frontier AI models.

  • Create robust frameworks for identifying and mitigating deployment safety risks, utilizing data analysis, expert consultations, and adversarial assessments.

  • Set strategic priorities and product roadmaps aimed at enhancing deployment safety, improving reliability, and managing new AI capabilities.

  • Develop scalable methodologies, tools, and processes for evaluating, refining, and continuously enhancing our safety systems.

  • Establish repeatable processes to weave cutting-edge AI safety research into OpenAI’s models and product offerings.

  • Create and regularly refine clear, actionable metrics that effectively capture safety performance and inform decision-making.
