Key Responsibilities:Design and execute benchmarks: Develop and maintain comprehensive end-to-end benchmarks for database and AI workloads. Database performance evaluation: Assess throughput, latency, concurrency, scalability, and stability across OLTP/OLAP and mixed workloads. AI performance optimization: Measure and enhance performance for GPU/CPU inference pipelines, model serving, and data/feature pipelines, while analyzing cost/performance trade-offs. Tooling and infrastructure: Create and maintain the necessary tools and environments to facilitate effective performance testing and analysis.

This Principal Performance Engineer position is fully remote and open to candidates based in the EU or UK.

Role overview

The Principal Performance Engineer will guide performance engineering for EDB’s database and AI products. This role shapes the benchmarking strategy, designs workload tests that reflect real-world scenarios, identifies regressions, and provides clear reports for leadership. Collaboration with Engineering, Solutions Verification, and Product teams is central to delivering reliable performance at scale.

What you will do

  • Define and maintain benchmarks for both database and AI workloads.
  • Develop and execute workload simulations that mirror practical use cases.
  • Identify and report on performance regressions.
  • Produce executive-level reports on performance metrics and trends.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to find and resolve systemic performance bottlenecks.
  • Influence product direction and architecture based on performance findings.
  • Lead efforts to make performance a core strength throughout the company.
