Key ResponsibilitiesHands-On Development & Data Governance (~50%)Design, develop, and implement data analytics tools, automated validation frameworks, and dashboards to provide Finance Operations and Controllership with real-time insights into data integrity across enterprise systems. Leverage AI for rapid prototyping, testing, and deployment of solutions. Promote upstream data quality by collaborating with source-system stakeholders in Revenue Operations, Procurement, Human Resources, and Engineering to address data issues at their source rather than after they spread. Maintain data dictionaries, lineage documentation, and quality scorecards for vital controllership data assets. Establish and uphold master data management (MDM) standards. Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and IT on integration strategies to ensure smooth data flow.

Role overview

The Principal Data Scientist will join the Office of the Chief Accounting Officer in Boston. This position blends technical expertise with a strong understanding of finance and accounting. The main goal is to ensure Axon’s AI developers, process owners, decision-makers, and auditors have access to reliable, well-governed data that meets audit requirements.

Main responsibilities

  • Design and build data analytics tools and pipelines, dedicating about half of the workload to hands-on development.
  • Apply AI to advance projects such as M&A integration, ERP rollouts, upstream data remediation, and SOX compliance.
  • Work closely with teams in Controllership, Finance Operations, FP&A, Internal Audit, and Technology to support AI, automation, and audit readiness.
  • Incorporate AI-driven development tools into daily tasks to improve productivity and outcomes.
