About the Role:
The Principal, Data Center Development is the primary owner responsible for advancing data center sites from initial site control to operational status. This role encompasses overseeing development diligence, budgeting, risk management, and ensuring project readiness for self-development and joint venture projects, effectively de-risking each initiative before commitments are made.
This hands-on, execution-focused position integrates site selection, power management, sustainability practices, design, legal considerations, government incentives, financial planning, and construction to deliver scalable, development-ready projects. Expect to travel up to 25-30% of the time.
Development Ownership
- Manage the entire development lifecycle from site selection to operations turnover.
- Act as the sole accountable owner for the development budget, timeline, and risk assessment.
- Facilitate development readiness reviews and provide go/no-go recommendations to leadership.
- Conduct weekly development site calls for executive-level updates, engaging all internal stakeholders.
Diligence & Risk Management
- Lead and coordinate all development workstreams comprehensively.
- Aggregate diligence findings into a coherent risk profile to support informed decision-making.
