Key Responsibilities
- Practice Management Software: Use billing system databases to update facility files and patient demographics. Ensure charge and payment batches, bank deposits, and reconciliations are accurate. Edit claims and manage claim notes within the system.
- Insurance Processing: Post charges, payments, and adjustments. Address unpostable items, work credit and collection lists, and apply kick codes correctly. Apply coding knowledge as needed.
- Account Organization: Track, file, and document all correspondence to maintain accurate collections and follow-up activities.
- Technical Skills: Use Outlook for email and navigate Microsoft Word and Excel for daily tasks.
- Collections: Respond to patient billing and insurance questions, resolving financial issues promptly.
- Billing Interpretation: Understand and interpret billing slips and use the athena workflow dashboard.
- Business Operations: Complete payment and deposit batches with correct fund allocation. Review patient invoices and claims for accuracy before submission. Understand month-end productivity and statistical reports, as well as financial policies like cash discounts, payment plans, and sliding fee schedules.
- Customer Service: Prepare account history for physician review or transfer to collection agencies as needed.
- Communication: Answer patient calls efficiently, using proper telephone etiquette and understanding privacy requirements for protected health information.
