Luminis Health seeks a part-time Laboratory Assistant in Annapolis, MD. This position supports technical staff by providing key medical laboratory information that helps with diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support process improvement by looking for ways to add value and taking responsibility for results. When work is slow, find other job-related tasks.
  • Maintain a safe, organized workspace by following all procedures and regulations. Label and dispose of biohazard and chemical waste according to standards.
  • Encourage smooth workflow within and between departments by promoting collaboration and effective hand-offs.
  • Monitor laboratory supply inventory, anticipate needs, place orders, verify deliveries, and store supplies according to manufacturer instructions. Use resources efficiently.
  • Provide accurate clinical lab information by answering questions and helping train new staff as a mentor.
  • Collect biological specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture, capillary, and heel-stick techniques. Ensure specimens are suitable for testing. Process gynecological and non-gynecological samples for microscopic review as needed.
  • Register patients in the Hospital Information System, interpret test orders, and respond promptly to lab result requests.
  • Prepare and process samples for referral to outside labs, ensuring proper distribution according to protocols.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Participate in the laboratory quality improvement program, including documenting quality controls and contributing to investigative reports.
