Luminis Health is hiring a part-time Laboratory Assistant in Annapolis, MD. This role helps technical staff deliver accurate medical laboratory information, supporting patient diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with process improvement by identifying opportunities to add value and taking responsibility for outcomes. When regular duties are slow, take initiative to complete other related tasks.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory by following safety procedures. Properly label and dispose of biohazard and chemical waste in line with regulations.
- Promote effective workflow within the lab and between departments. Support collaboration and ensure smooth hand-offs.
- Monitor laboratory supplies, anticipate needs, place orders, verify deliveries, and store materials according to manufacturer guidelines. Use resources efficiently.
- Provide accurate clinical laboratory information. Answer questions and support new staff as a mentor during training.
- Collect biological specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture, capillary, and heel-stick methods. Confirm specimen suitability for testing. Prepare gynecological and non-gynecological samples for microscopic review as needed.
- Register patients in the Hospital Information System, interpret test orders, and respond promptly to requests for laboratory results.
- Prepare and process samples for referral to outside laboratories, ensuring correct distribution following protocols.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
- Take part in the laboratory quality improvement program by documenting quality controls and contributing to investigative reports.
