Part-Time Emergency Veterinary Assistant – Role Overview

This part-time position in San Jose, CA, puts team members at the heart of emergency care. Emergency Veterinary Assistants support both clinical teams and pet families, gaining hands-on experience from the start. The role is well suited for those interested in pursuing credentialed technician status or exploring a future in veterinary medicine.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the first point of contact for incoming patients, triaging cases and creating a supportive environment for pet owners.
  • Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics such as bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
  • Work alongside veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
  • Handle IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
  • Support patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Join patient rounds to help maintain continuity of care.
  • Train in CPR and work toward RECOVER Certified Rescuer status (training provided).
  • Take on more complex responsibilities as skills grow.
