Qualifications: The successful candidate will have: A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field or equivalent work experience.2-5 years of relevant experience in OSP underground and aerial telecommunications engineering. A strong understanding of network architecture and supporting equipment. In-depth knowledge of outside plant engineering and construction. Familiarity with NESC and RUS construction codes related to telecommunications. Experience with GIS-based engineering programs. Knowledge of local jurisdiction permitting requirements. Proficiency in desktop and field quality control for final client deliverables. Excellent project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. A valid driver’s license.

Timmons Group is seeking a dedicated and skilled Outside Plant Engineer (OSP Engineer) to join our team in Richmond, VA. The OSP Engineer will play a crucial role in providing technical and engineering support for our outside plant network operations and maintenance, particularly focusing on fiber-optic systems. The ideal candidate will possess robust technical experience in outside plant design and demonstrate a collaborative spirit while working with various departments.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnosing, analyzing, and resolving network issues while coordinating with vendors to ensure successful deployment and maintenance of outside plant networks.
  • Leading and mentoring OSP Engineer resources.
  • Managing the design and execution of extensive outside plant projects, covering hundreds of miles for major network deployments.
  • Utilizing GIS technology for low-level fiber engineering.
  • Conducting field visits and network verifications.
  • Engaging in high-level network design, including splicing and detailed engineering.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure make-ready management, permitting, and fielding align with OSP design criteria.
  • Reviewing permit and construction drawings to ensure engineering integrity.
  • Examining as-built plans and test results.
  • Working proficiently in ArcGIS/Pro or QGIS environments.
  • Maintaining organized records and project documentation.
  • Possessing a solid understanding of pole line design and fiber construction, both aerial and underground.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
