About the job
Nu Quantum is hiring a Nanofabrication Engineer to join its team in Cambridge, UK. This is a full-time, permanent role with visa sponsorship available. Applications close on Wednesday 27th May 2026 at 5pm (UK time).
Nu Quantum commercializes over ten years of research from the Cavendish Laboratory, focusing on quantum computing and advanced quantum photonic technology. The company partners with leading businesses and academic groups to build scalable quantum networking solutions, aiming to accelerate the development and adoption of quantum computing systems.
Role overview
This position will suit either a Nanofabrication Engineer or Senior Nanofabrication Engineer, depending on experience. The role sits within the hardware R&D group and centers on advancing quantum networking technology. Success in this work depends on achieving high levels of precision and fidelity, supporting multi-core quantum computing. The engineer will work closely with the Photonics Systems team, which brings together expertise in engineering design, optics, integrated photonics, and nanofabrication. The initial project will focus on developing and testing a custom MEMS actuator for Nu Quantum’s next-generation Qubit Photon Interface (QPI) device.
What you will do
- Design, test, and optimize custom MEMS actuators and miniaturized optical cavity module devices for the upcoming Qubit Photon Interface.
- Develop and refine high-precision assembly processes for aligning and assembling miniaturized optical components.
- Work with external foundry suppliers and internal process engineers to define and improve microfabrication workflows.
- Manage design-test-build cycles, including parts inventory, test planning, database management, and technical reporting to ensure timelines and quality standards are met.
