Key ResponsibilitiesCultivate collaboration among hardware architecture, design, and software application teams to formulate comprehensive characterization plans that unveil critical performance metrics, identify system bottlenecks, and validate performance against established requirements. Engage cross-functionally to translate high-level functional and performance requirements into actionable sub-system specifications, evolving them into future architectural standards. Lead and support integration and automation initiatives that pertain to characterization and validation activities across various hardware testing configurations, including early prototype boards and lab environments. Oversee the end-to-end development of systems and automation for performance characterization, from requirements definition to solution identification and implementation.

Their mission centers on setting new standards for automotive technology worldwide.

This role sits within the Hardware Systems Architecture team in Palo Alto, California. The Hardware Systems Performance Architect will assess and guide the performance of low-voltage electrical systems in Rivian vehicles. Early-stage hardware architecture decisions and developmental system designs will rely on the insights provided in this position.

Role overview

This role focuses on wireless connectivity and VAS (Vehicle Access Systems) performance. The architect will analyze and quantify system performance, identify potential design risks, and ensure that system architectures meet demanding requirements. The position covers a range of wireless technologies, including:

  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth and BLE
  • 4G/5G cellular
  • GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems)
  • UWB (Ultra-Wideband)

These technologies are critical for telematics, passive and keyless vehicle access systems, and other connectivity-driven features.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of wireless connectivity systems and their performance metrics
  • Ability to anticipate design risks and validate system architecture against requirements
  • Experience with technologies such as WiFi, BT/BLE, 4G/5G, GNSS, and UWB
  • Background in low-voltage electrical systems for vehicles
