Role overview
The Ground Systems Software Engineer will design, build, and deploy software that connects autonomous drones to military operators. This includes creating ATAK plugins, ground control station interfaces, and command-and-control integration layers. The work directly shapes how users interact with critical information during high-pressure operations. Experience with tactical software and an understanding of operational demands under stress are important for this position.
Key responsibilities
- Develop software in Java or Kotlin for Android, using tools such as Android Studio, ADB, and Gradle.
- Improve ground control station software by building user interfaces for system health monitoring, mission setup, and status visualization.
- Collaborate with end users to design operator workflows and UI/UX flows that reduce cognitive load, prioritize key information, and maintain usability when communications or sensor data are limited.
- Participate in field testing and demonstrations, gather operator feedback, and quickly adapt the software based on real-world use.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience with Java or Kotlin and the Android development ecosystem (Android Studio, ADB, Gradle).
- Strong understanding of TCP/UDP networking, serial communications, and XML-based messaging protocols.
- Ability to understand full system architecture, from sensors to display, including how latency, data quality, and display choices affect operator decisions.
Preferred qualifications
- Background working with tactical software solutions in high-stakes environments.
