A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering is required by the hire date; preference will be given to candidates with degrees from ABET accredited programs. Understanding and application of principles and theories in advanced heat transfer, solar energy, and fluid dynamics in the design of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems. Related internship experience is preferred. EIT or LEED accreditation is preferred. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage multiple projects.

About the Role

CannonDesign is looking for an Entry-Level Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to join the Chicago, IL office. This position works as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of a Certified Plumbing Designer or licensed Engineer. Projects span new construction and renovations across education, healthcare, corporate commercial, and science and technology sectors.

What You Will Do

  • Support basic design of piping, controls, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems in building projects, with supervision. Assist with HVAC design as needed.
  • Help with Revit/BIM modeling of construction drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design through construction administration, under oversight. Provide Revit/BIM modeling support for HVAC systems as required.
  • Work with the design team to develop specifications.
  • Draft reports for review by a senior engineer.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for contract compliance.
  • Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress. This may involve physical walkthroughs.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need
