Role Overview: Engineering Manager, Cloud Inference (AWS)

This Berlin-based role leads the Cloud Inference team responsible for Claude on AWS. The Engineering Manager guides the team in scaling and optimizing Claude for a broad developer and enterprise audience using AWS. This position owns the full product lifecycle of Claude on AWS, including API management, load balancing, inference, capacity, and operations.

The team ensures Anthropic’s large language models meet strict performance, safety, and security standards. Efforts focus on strengthening infrastructure for packaging, testing, and deploying inference technology worldwide. The work directly supports Anthropic’s ability to deliver new models and features to customers across platforms.

What You Will Do

  • Set technical strategy and oversee development for Claude on AWS, covering all layers of the stack.
  • Collaborate across teams to understand product, infrastructure, operations, and capacity needs, and identify solutions for serving advanced LLMs.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to align goals and drive outcomes.
  • Provide clarity and direction for the team and stakeholders, especially when circumstances change or details are uncertain.
  • Recruit and coach technical talent, building an inclusive, high-performing team.
  • Design and implement processes such as postmortems, incident response, and on-call rotations to help the team learn and operate efficiently.

What We’re Looking For

  • More than 10 years in high-scale, high-reliability software development, with a focus on infrastructure or capacity management.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing engineering teams.
  • Background in recruiting, scaling, and retaining engineers in a growing organization.
  • Experience scaling products, resources, and operations to support rapid growth.
  • Strong interest in advanced AI systems and a commitment to their safe development.
