At Rea Road Animal Hospital, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of veterinary doctors. Our externship program is designed to complement your academic training with real-world experience in a modern and well-managed practice, ensuring you are well-prepared to provide exceptional care upon graduation.
Program Structure:
Our flexible externship opportunities range from two to eight weeks, aligning with your academic schedule, though most are typically two to three weeks long. Expect to engage in a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
During your externship, you will work closely with our veterinary team, honing your problem-solving, technical, and communication skills while participating in all facets of patient care. A weekly stipend of $250 will be provided to support your experience.
Your Responsibilities:
As an extern, you will encounter the diverse caseload typical of a small animal practice. Under the guidance of your mentor, you will be responsible for gathering patient histories, conducting physical exams, developing diagnostic and treatment plans, assisting in surgeries, managing medical cases, providing wellness care, and enhancing your client communication and technical skills while accurately documenting medical records (SOAPs) within the daily practice timeframe.

We are looking for enthusiastic and proactive veterinary students who are eager to engage in our patient care initiatives while adhering to professional and ethical standards. Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and supervision requirements is essential to ensure the safety of both yourself and our practice.
