About the job

We are seeking a talented and experienced Design Manager to join one of our premier main contractor clients on a permanent basis at their west London office. This position is ideal for a seasoned Design Coordinator or Manager who is eager to enhance the Design Management department by establishing and implementing industry-leading best practice procedures. You will manage the design processes of multiple projects simultaneously while also contributing to the tendering and bid preparation for potential new projects.

Key Responsibilities

· Conduct comprehensive technical reviews and assess design information received during the tender phase.

· Identify risks and propose strategies and alternative design solutions to mitigate issues effectively.

· Engage in negotiations with consultants and manage appointment processes, including novated and directly appointed roles.

· Review and finalize payment schedules.

· Assemble consultant appointment documents in accordance with company protocols.

· Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding design-related queries.

· Define the scope of services for each Design Consultant using a Design Responsibility Matrix.

· Produce and oversee the Design Information Required programme to ensure that design development and client approvals are achieved within the agreed timeline, aligned with the overall project schedule.

· Enhance project value through practical Value Engineering, exploring alternative design options while preserving the core quality and essence of the design at every phase.

· Ensure that all design information received complies with the Contractor’s Proposals and Employer’s Requirements.

· Raise Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed and maintain the RFI tracker until all items are resolved.

· Monitor the preparation of information required by relevant statutory bodies and local authorities to ensure timely submissions.

· Identify and manage design changes and obtain client approvals as required.

· Lead design reviews to ensure coordination and compliance with Employers Requirements.

· Ensure all design information is feasible and safe for construction.

· Audit and approve the quality and content of design information against invoices received at agreed design stages.
