QualificationsPhD in biophysics, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, or a related field with a computational focus, or a Master's degree with 7 years of relevant industry experience. Proficient in scientific programming (e.g., Python), data analytics, and reporting tools (experience with Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter preferred). Expertise in advanced molecular modeling techniques and associated software, including docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and rational ligand design. Familiarity with psi4, MDAnalysis, FreeSASA, AutoDock Vina, and AutoDock 4 is advantageous. Experience with cheminformatics tools (e.g., Open Babel, RDKit) and foundational knowledge of machine learning/AI applications in computational chemistry, including protein structure prediction (e.g., AlphaFold). Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment, focusing on prototyping and iterative optimization.

Join Monarch Crops as a Research Scientist specializing in Computational Chemistry, where you will spearhead our molecular modeling initiatives to understand insect responses to olfactory cues. In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer, contributing significantly to the validation of machine-learning-predicted compounds across various insect species.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement computational models aimed at predicting molecular interactions between compounds and olfactory receptors.
  • Perform quantum mechanical calculations, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations to enhance predictive accuracy.
  • Interpret data from computational experiments to select compounds for laboratory and field trials.

Location

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Oakland, CA.
