Role Overview: Clinician Scientist (San Francisco, Hybrid)

Abridge is hiring Clinician Scientists to help build and improve AI-powered tools for clinicians. This role combines deep clinical expertise with an understanding of artificial intelligence. Clinician Scientists at Abridge define and validate AI solutions to ensure accuracy and usefulness for healthcare professionals, working closely with engineers, product managers, researchers, and other clinicians.

This position is based in San Francisco and follows a hybrid schedule: at least three days per week onsite in the SF office. Relocation support is available for those moving to the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine AI-driven clinical tools, including those for note-taking, risk adjustment (HCC capture), clinical decision support, and prior authorization, using clinical knowledge and prompt engineering.
  • Define what counts as “clinically meaningful” output for each product, setting error thresholds, identifying possible failure points, and establishing quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and other clinicians to embed medical insights into AI models.
  • Draft, review, and adjust prompts to improve AI model performance in clinical settings.

Location and Work Model

  • Role based in San Francisco office (Mission District).
  • Hybrid: minimum three days per week in-office.
  • Relocation assistance offered for candidates moving to San Francisco.
