Planet Kia Charlotte invites military veterans with mechanical experience to join the Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP) in Charlotte, NC. This program, created by Kia America, supports veterans as they move into the automotive industry and work toward a lasting career as an Automotive Service Technician.
Apprenticeship Overview
The VTAP is a one-year, competency-based apprenticeship. Apprentices work full-time at Planet Kia Charlotte, gaining practical experience while progressing toward Kia Service Technician certification. The program is GI Bill® approved, allowing eligible veterans to receive a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) during their training period.
What You Will Do
As an Automotive Technician Apprentice, work closely with experienced technicians and service professionals to develop the skills needed for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing Kia vehicles. Training includes both technical knowledge and hands-on practice, preparing apprentices for a successful future in automotive service.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair Kia vehicles, including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical systems.
- Conduct vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs following Kia procedures and using dealership equipment.
- Accurately complete repair orders and warranty documentation in line with Kia and dealership standards.
- Test drive vehicles to verify repair quality using diagnostic tools.
- Collaborate with service advisors and shop foremen to help ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient workspace, following dealership safety protocols.
