Key ResponsibilitiesFacilitate and enhance thermal runaway testing at cell, module, and pack levels. Interpret thermal runaway test data to inform simulation, design, manufacturing, and future test planning. Create and manage mechanical designs and containment concepts pertaining to thermal runaway. Collaborate closely with stress, manufacturing, quality, and testing teams to produce compliant and certifiable designs. Assist in defining verification and qualification strategies, ensuring a balance between test comprehensiveness and certification standards. Contribute to the qualification of innovative materials and processes relevant to battery safety. Oversee at least one thermal runaway-related component through its design, testing, and Critical Design Review phases.

Your Role

As an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Thermal Runaway, you will be an integral part of our Energy Storage team, addressing one of the most pressing safety challenges in electric aviation: thermal runaway prevention, mitigation, and containment.

Your expertise will drive the advancement of thermal runaway testing, enabling us to analyze data and transform insights into resilient mechanical designs, simulations, and qualification strategies. This position is central to our battery safety and certification initiatives.

Your typical day may include supporting live thermal runaway experiments, evaluating results to refine designs or simulations, collaborating with stress and manufacturing teams, or crafting qualification strategies for innovative materials and components.

This role is perfect for an engineer who thrives on solving technically intricate challenges, excels in dynamic development environments, and is eager to take ownership of critical safety hardware.
