About the job
Our Vision
At Vertical Aerospace, we are at the forefront of revolutionizing electric aviation. Our flagship aircraft, the Valo, is an innovative eVTOL (electric, vertical take-off and landing) vehicle that aims to set unprecedented safety standards in aerial navigation.
We are committed to redefining aerospace norms, moving away from outdated practices that have hindered progress. As we transition from a prototype-focused venture to a rapidly scaling SME, the coming years are pivotal in achieving our ambitious objectives, including obtaining airliner-level safety certification by 2028, ahead of our operational rollout with airline partners.
Your Role
As an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Thermal Runaway, you will be an integral part of our Energy Storage team, addressing one of the most pressing safety challenges in electric aviation: thermal runaway prevention, mitigation, and containment.
Your expertise will drive the advancement of thermal runaway testing, enabling us to analyze data and transform insights into resilient mechanical designs, simulations, and qualification strategies. This position is central to our battery safety and certification initiatives.
Your typical day may include supporting live thermal runaway experiments, evaluating results to refine designs or simulations, collaborating with stress and manufacturing teams, or crafting qualification strategies for innovative materials and components.
This role is perfect for an engineer who thrives on solving technically intricate challenges, excels in dynamic development environments, and is eager to take ownership of critical safety hardware.
