Qualifications

Minimum RequirementsBA/BS in Civil Engineering or related field, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects, or equivalent education and experience. Preferred QualificationsExperience managing large-scale treatment plant projects with budgets exceeding $1M. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California. Strong technical background in wastewater treatment, advanced water recycling, nutrient management, and regulatory compliance. Proven track record of successfully managing scope, schedule, and budgets on complex infrastructure projects. Active involvement or leadership within industry organizations such as the California Water Environment Association, Water Environment Federation, Water Reuse Association, or Bay Area Clean Water Agencies. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

AECOM is seeking a talented Water/Wastewater Project Manager to oversee critical projects throughout Northern California. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the planning, design, and construction efforts for both upgrades and new infrastructure at water and wastewater treatment facilities across the region.

This position offers the flexibility to be based anywhere within Northern California, with regular site visits to client projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust combination of technical knowledge and project management acumen, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of California's water regulations. You will be tasked with guiding diverse teams through intricate infrastructure programs, ensuring the delivery of sustainable and regulatory-compliant solutions while fostering innovative treatment technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager for water and wastewater treatment facility projects across California, leading efforts from planning and alternatives analysis through design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Deliver strong technical leadership in treatment processes, hydraulics, nutrient removal, biosolids management, advanced water purification (DPR/IPR/AWTP), and collection systems.
  • Ensure compliance with current and evolving California water quality and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, I&C) to provide high-quality, integrated design solutions.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and risk management plans; monitor performance to guarantee timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Engage clients effectively, leading presentations and stakeholder coordination, including regulatory agencies and public outreach initiatives.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, interviews, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Regularly visit project sites throughout Northern California to ensure progress and maintain robust client relationships.
