ABOUT VETERINARY EMERGENCY GROUP (VEG)

Since its inception in 2014, Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) has been dedicated to transforming the veterinary emergency experience. With a commitment to innovation, we've expanded our network of hospitals across the nation, providing around-the-clock service every day of the year. Our mission is to enhance the emergency care experience for both pets and their owners, as well as foster a rewarding and supportive environment for our VEG team members—whom we affectionately call 'VEGgies'.

At VEG, we empower you to pursue your passion in veterinary emergency medicine. Our open-concept hospitals allow for hands-on engagement with a diverse range of emergency cases, including exotic animals. We pride ourselves on delivering a customer-focused experience that ensures both pets and their owners receive the exceptional care they deserve.

We are proud to be recognized as a certified Great Place to Work® for both 2025 and 2026.

THE EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Our Veterinary Technician Student Externship Program is designed to cultivate the next generation of veterinary technicians. This immersive, hands-on experience allows you to work alongside our certified emergency veterinary technicians, gaining invaluable insights into the field of emergency medicine.

Rather than simply observing, you will actively participate in the day-to-day operations, engaging with real cases, asking questions, and experimenting with new techniques. From patient triage to diagnostics and inpatient care, this externship will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of emergency veterinary medicine and help you determine if this is the career path you wish to pursue. This is your opportunity to establish a strong foundation, ignite your passion, and contribute to a cause larger than yourself.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Learn from leading professionals in emergency veterinary care.
  • Receive real-time mentoring from an experienced emergency credentialed veterinary technician.
  • Shadow and assist in triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, inpatient care, and more.
  • Practice skills outlined in your school's proficiency checklist with expert guidance.
  • Experience the collaborative spirit, fast-paced environment, and compassion that characterize emergency care at VEG.
  • Decide if becoming an ER superhero is the next step in your career journey.
