About the job
Join us in shaping the future of veterinary medicine!
At Coldwater Animal Hospital, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of veterinarians through our Externship/Preceptorship Program. Our program offers you the chance to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a modern, well-managed practice, which is a vital part of your veterinary education. We aim to enhance your readiness for professional practice and ensure you are well-prepared for your career after graduation.
Program Structure:
Our externships provide flexibility, lasting from two to eight weeks based on your academic requirements, with most typically being two to three weeks long. You will work varied schedules that include days, evenings, and weekends.
During your externship, you will have the opportunity to engage closely with our team of veterinarians, practicing problem-solving, technical, and communication skills acquired during your studies. You will work alongside our veterinary staff, participating in all facets of patient care. A stipend of $250 per week will be offered to support you during your externship.
Your Responsibilities:
As an extern, you will experience a typical caseload in a small animal practice. Under the guidance of your mentor, you will gather patient histories, conduct physical exams, develop diagnostic and treatment plans, assist in surgeries, manage medical cases, provide wellness care, improve your client communication skills, refine your technical abilities, and maintain accurate medical records (SOAP notes) efficiently.
Who We Seek:
We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated veterinary students who will actively contribute to our patient care initiatives while maintaining the professional and ethical standards of our practice. It is recommended that participants familiarize themselves with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and the level of supervision required to ensure a safe and compliant experience.
As an extern, professionalism in attire and behavior is expected, aligning with the standards set out in our employee handbook.
