Role: Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Specialist
The VFD Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the application, sales, training, and troubleshooting of ABB HVAC Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). As a key player in our partnership with ABB, a market leader in HVAC VFDs, you will be indispensable in maintaining our competitive edge. We are looking for an individual who not only possesses extensive knowledge of ABB VFDs but also demonstrates familiarity with relevant HVAC equipment and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert troubleshooting support via phone and email for end-users, contractors, and the in-house service team as the primary escalation contact.
- Deliver onsite troubleshooting assistance as needed; utilize metering equipment for VFDs and control systems.
- Conduct training sessions for the service team on traditional VFD start-ups and troubleshooting; offer training to owners and contractors, ranging from 30 minutes to a full day.
- Develop and support in-house demonstrations for engineer/customer visits.
- Assist inside and outside sales teams in selecting the appropriate VFD for specific applications and review specifications.
- Perform harmonic calculations and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
- Identify MRO VFD opportunities and collaborate with the sales team to create proactive replacement strategies.
- Act as a subject matter expert on VFDs for local specifying engineers; participate and present at local ASHRAE chapter meetings.
- Stay up to date with local rebate programs for VFDs and take part in local trade shows.
- Remain knowledgeable about industry trends and engage in discussions regarding HVAC and VFDs, including comparisons with non-ABB products.
Technical Skills:
- Strong technical expertise in VFDs, HVAC systems, and communication protocols (e.g., BACnet).
- Ability to implement and support training initiatives, with effective communication skills in both group and one-on-one settings.
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting electrical systems.
