Basic Qualifications:A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a journeyman in the trade, holding a current Pipefitter’s license and EPA CFC Technician certification. Completion of a relevant trade or vocational school program is mandatory. Hands-on experience in the installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of various utility systems and components, including chillers, boilers, piping systems, compressors, cooling towers, and water treatment systems. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required. Additional Qualifications and Skills:Possession of an Oil Burner Technician’s, Fireman’s, or Operating Engineer’s License is highly preferred. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical manuals related to systems and equipment relevant to your duties.

About the job

As a dedicated Utility Operator, you will leverage your specialized skills to operate and maintain essential utility systems including chilled water, steam, and compressed air generation and distribution systems. Your expertise will also extend to water and drainage distribution systems and related components.

In this role, you will be tasked with maintaining a thorough understanding of these systems, diagnosing issues, and implementing solutions in accordance with industry standards, recognized trade practices, and Harvard University guidelines. You will ensure that your work area, tools, and equipment meet the University’s high standards, while collaborating effectively with your team and working independently under the supervision of the Associate Manager or Working Foreman.
