Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Structural, or Tunnel Engineering with 6+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Structural, Geotechnical, or Tunnel Engineering. Experience with large diameter (18 ft +) tunneling and trenchless technologies. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary efforts on large underground infrastructure projects (valued at $200+ million). Client-facing experience and skills. Experience planning and implementing geotechnical investigation programs for tunnel and underground projects. Proficiency in analytical and numerical analysis methods related to tunnels and underground works.

The responsibilities of this role encompass the following:

Key Responsibilities

  • Design tunnels and underground structures utilizing TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) and SEM (Sequential Excavation Methods).

  • Design SOE (Support of Excavation) systems for shafts, portals, cut-and-cover structures, and deep excavations.

  • Develop, verify, and validate analytical, spreadsheet, and manual design calculations.

  • Utilize commercial numerical modeling software for advanced analyses.

  • Independently structure work plans, design tasks, and deliverables for underground infrastructure projects.

  • Prepare comprehensive design reports, technical specifications, and drawing packages, as well as assemble contract documents.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across various disciplines, external partners, and clients to ensure successful project execution.

  • Offer expert guidance in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and ground-structure interaction to multidisciplinary teams on significant transportation and water conveyance projects.

  • Contribute to the enhancement and ongoing development of AECOM’s tunneling standards, tools, and best practices.
