Qualifications
Responsibilities:Design and oversee traffic engineering projects encompassing signal design, pavement marking/striping, signage, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), ADA curb ramps, and multimodal corridor enhancements. Prepare traffic signal plans and control designs using industry-standard software such as Civil 3D, SignCAD, AGI 32, and AutoTURN. Conduct traffic forecasting and modeling analyses using CUBE, TransCAD, or other Travel Demand Management (TDM) and Activity-Based Models (ABM) tools. Evaluate traffic operations with Cubic Synchro/SimTraffic and develop signal timing plans. Assist in traffic planning and analysis, including Traffic Impact Studies, Vision Zero initiatives, Active Transportation Plans, and Area Specific Plans. Generate construction specifications, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and Requests for Information (RFIs) for traffic-related projects. Apply relevant Federal, State, and local codes, standards, and Caltrans requirements to traffic design and planning initiatives. Create conceptual design alternatives and feasibility studies for traffic signal and corridor improvements. Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders, including public agencies and community groups, during the project lifecycle. Provide support for project scheduling, permitting, and construction oversight as necessary.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical background in traffic engineering, signal design, and traffic planning. This position requires an individual who can independently apply standard engineering principles to various traffic projects, including signalized intersections, corridor studies, traffic impact analyses, and multimodal transportation enhancements. Candidates should be adept at traffic-related roadway design—including signals, traffic control, signing, and striping—with a focus on complete streets and planning studies, while also thriving in a collaborative team environment.
