To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college plus three years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience, with at least one year in an administrative or supervisory role.2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of relevant clerical or administrative experience, including one year in an administrative supervisory capacity.3. A high school diploma or its equivalent and five years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience, including one year in an administrative supervisory role.4. Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.

About the job

The Bureau of the Controller, Division of Finance, is actively seeking a dedicated Principal Administrative Associate (PAA) Level I to serve as a Timekeeper within the Office of Payroll. This crucial office oversees the meticulous review and processing of time, leave, and overtime data for over 6,000 employees in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and OCME. The Timekeeper will execute all timekeeping processes under supervision, strictly adhering to the City of New York’s Time and Leave rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Efficiently processing time and leave information using Citytime, the City’s electronic timekeeping system, ensuring compliance with City and Agency policies.
- Monitoring employee leave balances to guarantee appropriate usage.
- Authorizing employee overtime (Cash and Compensatory Time) requests through the Overtime Tracking System (OTS).
- Conducting daily and weekly audits of timekeeping and payroll reports to verify accurate employee compensation.
- Managing employee separations from the agency, including retirement, resignation, and inter-agency transfers.
- Collaborating with Human Resources and relevant Divisions to address employee attendance and timesheet issues.
- Preparing documentation for supplementary checks as needed.
- Undertaking special projects as assigned by the unit supervisor.
