Internship Details
This Thermal & Mechanical Engineering Intern position is part of the Hardware Engineering and Systems Architecture teams. The internship runs either from June 2 to August 21 or from June 22 to September 11, based in Santa Clara, CA.
Role Overview
The intern will work directly on hardware development, splitting time between CAD design and hands-on R&D lab work. Projects support the creation and validation of liquid and air-cooled systems for advanced computing hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Lab Infrastructure & Setup: Help organize and set up the Thermal and Mechanical R&D lab, including high-power test benches and specialized sensors.
- Hardware Validation: Develop and document processes for powering PCIe accelerator cards in standalone configurations for thermal stress testing.
- Wind Tunnel Testing: Perform aerodynamic tests using a wind tunnel to measure pressure drop and thermal performance across multiple PCIe cards, creating statistical datasets for the architecture team.
- Thermal Modeling: Support the creation of CFD models in Simcenter Flotherm, building detailed representations of hardware components.
