About the job
Observable Space is at the forefront of space observation technology, offering revolutionary hardware and software solutions essential for organizations operating in space. By pioneering the industry’s first fully integrated range of products, we are enabling continuous, real-time monitoring of celestial phenomena. As a leader in advanced telescope design and manufacturing in the United States, our comprehensive suite of products caters to various sectors of the space industry, including commercial ventures, scientific research, educational institutions, government agencies, and astronomy enthusiasts.
Supported by esteemed institutional investors such as Upfront Ventures, Oceans Ventures, Venrex, Marlinspike Partners, and Embedded Ventures, we are committed to driving innovation in space technology.
Role Overview
In the role of Test Engineer for Ground Systems, you will engage with a diverse array of products, concentrating on robotic ground-based telescope systems and observatory infrastructures. Your primary responsibility will be to design, develop, and manage testing systems that assess the performance, reliability, and integration of our cutting-edge hardware and software under real-world conditions.
This hands-on position requires direct interaction with physical systems, the creation of automated testing frameworks, simulation of operational scenarios, and troubleshooting complex challenges across electrical, mechanical, and software domains. You will report to the Systems or Embedded Engineering Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and document testing systems for ground-based observatory and telescope platforms.
Create and sustain automated testing frameworks that verify system performance, reliability, and integration.
Construct and manage hardware-in-the-loop (HIL/HITL) and system-level testing environments.
Develop simulation environments to replicate real-world operating conditions, including sensor inputs, control systems, and communication interfaces.
Diagnose intricate issues across hardware and software interfaces, focusing on intermittent and edge-case failures.
Collaborate extensively with embedded, electrical, mechanical, and software teams to ensure thorough system validation.
Establish and execute test plans, validation procedures, and performance benchmarks.
Assist in hardware integration, bring-up, and field testing of ground systems.
