Qualifications

RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or a related engineering field. Minimum of 6 years of experience in quality, supplier quality, or manufacturing, preferably in automotive, aerospace, or medical devices. Hands-on experience in launching new products and enhancing quality systems. Proficient in problem-solving methodologies, including Six Sigma, 8D, and root cause analysis. Familiarity with quality tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), control plans, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and capability studies. Understanding of manufacturing processes related to electronics, batteries, and precision sensors. Strong background in supplier audits, APQP, PPAP, and production ramp-ups. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); knowledgeable in ISO 9000 and IATF 16949 quality systems. Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green Belt, or Quality Auditor are advantageous. Experience with tooling and fixture validation is a plus.

Role Overview
As a Supplier Development Engineer focusing on Motors and Magnetic Systems, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring supplier readiness and product quality for the components that power our cutting-edge humanoid robots. Your responsibilities will involve cross-functional collaboration to guarantee that all critical components meet our stringent standards for performance, reliability, and scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering and sourcing teams to identify and select suppliers based on their capabilities in motor and magnetic component manufacturing.

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of suppliers’ motor winding, rotor/stator assembly, and magnet bonding processes.

  • Ensure suppliers maintain consistency in torque-speed characteristics, thermal performance, and EMI compliance.

  • Assist with rotor balancing, bearing preload setups, and encoder integration.

  • Lead the supplier industrialization process from design through production ramp-up.

  • Support suppliers in tooling, equipment, and process qualifications.

  • Evaluate supplier readiness for vehicle builds and manage production risk effectively.

  • Drive the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process and support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) leading up to production initiation.

  • Train suppliers on 1X’s quality systems and review quality documentation for parts.

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives for supplier quality challenges.

  • Monitor and report on supplier quality metrics to ensure ongoing improvement.

  • Utilize lean and quality tools to foster continuous improvement across the supply chain.

  • Willingness to travel up to 40%, domestically and internationally, sometimes on short notice.
